I was told it wasn’t possible to create a phonetic keyboard that could show learners the spelling for every word in English, or voice those words for non-speaking children.

I proved that it could be done, with a team of fabulous techies and amazing teachers who trialled it and gave great feedback! The next step is to tell everyone about it! 

My next “can’t be solved” challenge is for children who communicate by eye pointing. I was inspired to tackle this next after reading about Jonathan’s determination to be a voice for the voiceless. Please check out TeachUsToo.org.uk

Instead of selecting whole words, or laboriously spelling one letter at a time with a communication partner, can they use the phonetic keyboard to build sentences while simultaneously developing orthographic knowledge, learning to read and spell as they communicate?

I believe the answer is “O Yes We Can.”

The O stands for Ortho-GraphiX®, the algorithm that bidirectionally maps every word in English between speech and print, making MySpeekie® possible. A patent is being sought.
